CREATIVITY IN TEACHING, ASSESSMENT & CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION

A GREAT TEACHER CAN BE THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE LIFE OF A YOUNG PERSON

Empower a teacher and you will have empowered generations of students that will pass through their hands.

We help teachers rethink the way they deliver education by equipping them with conceptual and practical knowledge and skills that they can immediately apply in their work. Through our training, teachers become out of the box thinkers who can create and deliver learning experiences and environments that favour the majority of students under their care.

We focus on what truly matters to the people we train

Our training helps solve problems or attain goals that are specific to each educational context. This is because we invest time working with teachers to identify what they are truly interested in.

Customised face to face and online training

We deliver our customised training through face to face workshops of all kinds as well as online through special teacher training engagements with schools.

Continuous support for teachers and schools after training

We always follow-up on the action points and deliverables agreed upon during training. This is because we are invested in helping teachers and schools solve problems or attain goals.

DEVELOPING TEACHER COMPETENCIES AROUND THE MAIN PROCESSES OF EDUCATION

Curriculum Interpretation : Pedagogy : Student Assessment

Our training is focused on helping teachers develop their knowledge and skills around the main processes of education which are Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment. These processes are used (albeit differently) across all the levels of education and across all approaches to education delivery i.e Kenya’s Competency Based Education Framework (commonly known as CBC), 8-4-4-, Montessori, Waldorf, ‘British’, ‘American’ etc.

Example of one of our trainings: Beyond Direct Instruction

The Brief

This training is inspired by the Blue Ocean Strategy – a business innovation tool that helps businesses rethink how they offer products and services to clients. The Blue Ocean is the untapped market where not many people focus while the Red Ocean is where everyone competes for the same thing. The Blue Ocean Strategy is therefore a way of thinking and shifting mindset that gets businesses to focus on creating new untapped approaches that will create value.

Similarly, in teaching, it is a teacher’s role to help every student achieve their potential and passing exams is the most important indicator to most students. This has led to an exam-focused approach to teaching where teachers aim to send as many students as possible to university. But how many students actually end up at the university? In the last three years, less than 15% of the students have found their way to university while more than 69% have scored D+ or below! This clearly means that the way we are educating is not working for the majority of students.

The Red Ocean is therefore the teachers that tend to move with the pace of the fastest learners that will most likely end up in university while The Blue Ocean is the teachers that look beyond their usual approaches with the aim of helping the ‘ordinary’ student reach their potential. The ‘ordinary’ student happens to be the majority in Kenya’s education system.
